Wexford Women’s Refuge provides safe, short-term crisis accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic violence for up to 8 – 10 weeks. The service recognises that the issues for a woman around domestic violence do not cease to exist when she leaves our residential service. It is the policy of Wexford Women’s Refuge, to continue to provide support and information for women in a post Refuge situation, at a location within the county for a defined period of time. The overall protection of Staff who provides this Outreach service is part of this policy.
.On discharge, inform the woman about the outreach/aftercare service.
.Leave the decision making to her.
.Provide her with the emergency helpline number.
.Log forwarding address and telephone number into external appointments book.
.On request for outreach/aftercare, establish with her if there has been perpetrator contact or cohabitation.
.Do not visit the woman in her home. Home visits may endanger the safety of the outreach person and the woman.
.Confirm with her prior to the visit, a safe meeting place of her choice.
.Always confirm with the Manager/Senior Support Worker where you are going and when you expect to return.
.Report back to the Refuge when the visit is over.
.Keep records brief and objective.
